As stated on the CDC website “More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese”. This is significant because America is now considered to be one of the most obese nations in the world. The main reason that America is so obese, is because most American tend to focus more on fast food and processed foods rather then eating fresh produces.
Fast Food is one of the biggest catalyst for health problems such as obesity and cardiovascular disease in adults and children in the United States. Obesity is defined as having an excess amount of fat, which leads to the increase in body weight. As stated in the NHS article, the main cause of obesity is when you eat more then you lose, “you consume high amounts of energy from your diet, particularly from fat and sugars, but do not burn off the energy through exercise and physical activity, much of the surplus energy is then stored by the body as fat.”. Obesity is generally caused by the poor food choices that people make. It is recommended by the USDA to eat about 2 cups of fruits and about 2 ½ cups of vegetables per day. But as stated in the Consumer HealthDay news article only 1 in 10 or a measly 13% eat the required serving of fruits and vegetables s per day. Obesity is a chronic disease that happens over a period of a long time where you continue to eat unhealthy and eat more food then you have to. Down below is an attached interview, with my friends where i present to them the facts about obesity and i gather there opinion.
Cardio Vascular diseases is also a very serious problem that is caused by over consumption of fast food. The Cardio Vascular system is consisted of your heart and blood circulatory system. As stated in the For Dummies website the circulatory system is consisted of arteries which contain “the blood vessels that take blood away from the heart”, veins which are “Blood vessels that return blood to the heart” and Capillaries which are “Very small vessels that lie between the arteries and veins”.
These vessels are very important to us because they navigate all of different fluids through out our body. It is estimated that our body pumps up to 2,000 gallons of blood everyday, so something that causes to resist this type of pumping can be very dangerous and potentially life threatening. Eating Fast Food continuously can cause Cardio Vascular, because fast food contain allot of saturated fat and allot of trans fat, these types of fats lower our good cholesterol and raise our bad cholesterol, once there is a high amount of bad cholesterol in our blood, they tend to clog up the veins in our arteries which can lead to Cardio Vascular problems. A prime example of how deadly fast food can be is shown in the documentary Super Size Me, where actor Morgan Spurlock decides to eat McDonalds for 30 days straight. In his 30 day journey he shares how, bad of an affect McDonald had on his body and mind, his response is attached below.
Fast Food may taste good, but it can be deadly and cause a wide array of health problems such as obesity and Cardio Vascular diseases if it is not eaten in moderation.
