I’m sure most of you know what Tinder is, but for those who don’t know, Tinder is a new type of online dating where the user selects whether or not they want to talk to another person just based off of a few pictures. The app has recently taken a downward spiral because of a population of men who take advantage of the speed-dating-like aspect of the app, and become overly sexual and aggressive towards females. The app pretty much sets up two people who find each other attractive, and not whatsoever based off personality, which is why it differs from successful dating sites like eHarmony and Match. The behavior of a high percentage of men on this app is very straightforward and rude.
Online dating is not a bad thing, and for a lot of people, they found the love of their lives on these kinds of sites. However, Tinder has little to no security and basically anyone with half a brain can sign up for the app. The app itself is being ruined by the men who use it the wrong way. There are in fact a lot of genuine guys on this app, but since a decent amount of girls are scared off this app because of a jerk who came across as sexual or aggressive, the amount of girls who use the app goes down. Apps like these are ruined because of people that Emily Heist Moss describes as, “19-year-olds in the ‘burbs, 40-somethings who find your taste in music “refreshing,” addled idiots writing ‘id fck u,’ and a handful of age-appropriate, nice-looking guys who can string some sentences together and like to cook.” The ratio of good guys on the internet versus bad guys is pretty much impossible to calculate, but people like Emily Heist Moss can vouch for the fact that the amount of bad guys is unfortunately high.
Multiple tests have been done to prove that Tinder is not the safest place for women. These tests are a trend on YouTube, and while some can get very vulgar, others are just to show that men seem to be more ‘thirsty’ than females. This following video definitely proves this point:
Now I know society has made it so that the guy is supposed to message the girl first, but could you imagine what some of those messages actually say? If you check out some more of these types of videos (the vulgar ones I was talking about before) you will see some messages sent from guys to girls and yes, they are as inappropriate as you can imagine.
As mentioned in my video, there are events held by women that have been victimized by weird Tinder match ups, some even met up with there math ups. They share the stories and experiences, and a lot of them have things in common. The guy they thought they were talking to seemed to be different in real life, both looks and behaviors. Tinder is not a safe environment, and though it could be useful to find a significant other, there are many other websites and apps out there that are a lot safer.
